NEW STAMP DUTIES.

AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The new stamp duties imposed by the Finance Act, 1915, come into operation on Monday next. The principal duties as altered by the new nation is as follows —

Receipts, 2d; cheques, 2d; agreements for sale, of land and conveyances, for every £SO for consideration, 10s; leases, for every £SO of annual rental, 3/; declaration, 3/; agreement, 1/3; mortgage, for every £IOO, 5/,; horse-racing stakes, 1- per cent.; totalisator dividend tax, 6d in every £1 of c'lividend.

For t:ie purpose of assessing the lastnamed duty the dividend is the amount paid into the totalisator on any race after the deduction of ten per cent. Thus— £ s. d.
