A case of surgical instruments used at the battle of Trafalgar and at about one 'hundred other engagements' has been received in Christchurch. It is in t ! he possession of Dr W. E, Redman, of Spring Creek, near Blenheim, and he has sent it to Mr Malcolm Niccol, of Christchurch. secretary of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand Masons, to be used for some patriotic purpose. The instruments comprise several knives, a saw, a probe and a needle, and there are the accompanying bandages. A letter, dated from (Newton-on-Trent on May 14th, 1834, sjhows that the case belonged to Surgeon W. C. 1 Morris. He calls it an "amputating case," and states that it had served him in upwards of one hundred engagements, beginning with Trafalgar, and consequently he prized it highly. He gave it to a friend, and it tame into the possession of Dr. Radman's father.
