ROMANTIC WAR WEDDING.
The only Englishwoman who has been married' xx> a Br irishV soldier in Paris during the war is at present staying at Peckliam Eye, where she and her husband' went to the same school years ago. This is Mrs. Grierson, wife' of Corporal George Grierson. of the Lincolnshire Eegiment, who has been.;described by one of his officers ns- "the straightest man in the British Army.". Mrs.. Grierson, who as- a girl was known as- Cissie Ling, went to Cannes as a nurse- last' October; and in January tO'Paris, where she-joined the Bed Cross Service. It was as Xurse Ling that she met her husband 1 in Paris on April 1. He was at that time acting as a member of' the British Military Police in Paris. Mrs. Grierson told a reporter about her romantic encounter- with her husband'.. "Every one tried' to- make an April Pool 1 of m«',.'"'' said, "'but no one sue- ' ceeded until I met my husband. I' was going along the Champs Elysees when a British soKTi'er whom I passed" exclaimed, Excuse me, nurse, you have dropped your pocket handkerchief.'" I turned round ,to pick up my handkerchief, saw that I had been made an April Foo'.< of at last, and by way-of repaying the joke I gave the soldidF a really good' smack on the cheek, and then went, on my. .way laughing. "I.did" not know the soldier, and he .did' not know me, bur he told his.comjrades that "he was sure he kne-ir- my jfaee", and that he was determined to (find me again, and meanwhile' I had ;marie the acquaintance of one of his comrades in the Military Police—Jack M'cKonnn. of the Black Watali, who was afterwards best man at our wedding. "He at once told my husband thatJhe had met me, and so my husband' and I met again. We then found thai? •when we were children we both, went to Nunhead Passage Board School' at ipec-kham Eve.
