(Quotations, I unless otherwise specified, are aver- | age market prices on spot): | Meat. —There is better demand for I mutton and lamb this week on account | of decrease in the amount available, | together with higher prices for home- | grown. I Mutton. —Canterbury, 7 3-8 d for I light weight, heavy weights 7d; other I j brands than Canterbury cannot be | quoted. A very few wethers are now I released to be offered to the public. I Ewes are selling freely at 53d to 6d. I Lamb. —Canterbury twos 8 l-Bd,fours 71d, second class quality light weight 7 15-16 d, other brands than Canterbury S l-8d for best quality ilght weight, ordinary quality 7 l-Bd. Beef.—Chilled beef is in small supply. Hinds 83d, fores 6£d. Of New Zealand only inferior quality is for sale, and is selling very slowly. Hinds Gd, fore s sd. v Butter. —The market is very ’.•-fettled and prices are irregular. Ihe margarine output is very large. The British output was never larger, na:l is selling at a high price, the scarcity of butter having accelerated the sale of margarine. Danish butter 160/ or

highest offer. The market is paralysed on account of high prices, and the demand suddenly ceased. For Irish creamery the market continues dull at 156/ to 165/; Siberian, 134/ to 140/. j Cheese. —The market is .very firm, and prices steady, Canadian white and coloured 82/ to 84/; deep coloured, 84/ to 86/; English Cheddar 94/ to 98/; Cheshire 98/ to 104/. The New Zealand market is cleared. The Rotorua shipment is not avalable. United States 71/ to 78/; low r grade 64/ to 70/. Hemp.—The market is very firm, with improved demand. New' Zealand good fair on spot £33 10/, New Zealand fair on spot £32 10/; Manila new graded fair £4O, forward shipment about the same. The output from Manila for the w'cek was 22,000 bales. Wheat. —The market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Octcber-November shipment Canadian 52/6, American 52/6. Oats —The market is firm, but the demand is only moderate. Argentine 28/.
