In 1913 a family named Sellar, whop lived for a time at Patea, left New Zealand and went to England to pretest against the compulsory military training Act, for failing to comply with which at least one member of the; family was taken into custody. A. London paper states that, one of t£e family, Fred H. Sellar, the secretary of the International Peacemakers' League, has been sentenced to & month’s imprisonment on the chargeof hindering recruiting by printing and circulating a leaflet wich dealt with the National Register which he declared was the first step towards conscription.
