NATIONAL REGISTRATION.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

Personal schedules, in connection with the National War Register, for completion by male residents of the Dominion, between the ages of 17 and 60 years, are now being distributed by the Postal Department. Schedules will be in the hands of every postmaster before the 26th inst, on which date taking of the register commences. The exhibition of a poster announcing the Governor's proclamatian will be simultaneous at every post office, and at various other points, on tho morning of the 26th, and the lUstnbation of schedules will then commence. In the towns schedules will be delivered to every residence by letter carriers and called for on completion. At smaller places, where letter carriers are not employed, schedules will be handed to eligible persons by postmasters on demand. Provision has been made by the department for supply of schedules to persons !ho!ding private mail bags, and to those resident on rural postal deliveries. Special steps are being taken in connection with the registration of vessels.

Schedules are not required to be filled in by full blooded Maoris or half-caste Maoris living as Maoris,but half-caste Maoris living as Europeans are required to register. The organisation of Post Offices, is being used as far as possible to reach every eligible person in the Dominion, but responsibility for obtaining a schedule rests upon the individual. Failure to return a completed schedule on to the Government Statistician, Wellington, or to an officer of the Postal I?e----partment, by the 9th prox., will render eligible persons liable to a maximum penalty of £100; or six months' imtvrisonrnent.
