HIGH COMMISSIONER S WEEKLY REPORT. WELLINGTON, October 18. Following is the High Commissioner’s weekly market cable, dated October 16th, •. (Note: Quotations, un’ess otherwise specified, .are average market prices cn snot): Meat. —Poorer demand for mutton and lamb, owing to large supply of Scotch, whichi is selling at a lew price, sometimes .css than frozen Canterbury. Mutton, Canterbury, 7 3-8 d Ight weight, .heavy weights 7c!; other than Canterbury cannot be quoted. Lamb.—Canterbury two’s 8 1-8 d; heavy weight, best quality not quoted; ordinary quality 7:‘-d for light weight. Beef —Prime New Zealand beef not available. Second class quality, (hinds Gd, fores sd. Chilled beef in moderate supply’; hinds 7 7-Sd, fores 7 5-Bd. Butter.-—Market very unsettled, and prices Irregular. Practically no demand for Danish cn account of high prices. Official quotations are suspended this week, owing to Germany buynig heavily. They are reported to be paying at the rate of about 2305. The normal .price here is 184 g to 190 s. Siberian in good demand for finest, low grade slew at 13Gs to 1425. Irish creamery, market dull and at a decline, IGSs to 1765. United States in good demand; London and Liverpool, cost, insurance, freight 14Ss to 1545; spot market 150 s to 163 s according to quality. Cneese. —Market firm with upward tendency. Canadian in steady demand; market stronger for white and coloured at 77s to 80s. English Cheddar firm and in coed demand at 90s to 965. Cheshire 96s to 100 s. (New Zealand spot market practically cleared; white and coloured 70s to 78s. United States 72s to 765, fine 6Ss to 70s. [ Hemp.—Market very quiet. There I has been nothing doing during the week, but to-day business is apparent- * j ly improving and the market is firmer. I New Zealand good fair £33 10s, New Zealand fair £32 10s.
