PATRIOTIC GYMNASTIC DISPLAY.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The patriotic gymnastic display given in the Taihape Town Hal! last evening by members of the local gymnasium proved an unqualified success, and the large audience were more than pleased to see the progress of the members. Evey item was very good, and drew forth well merited applause. The Australasian champion, Mr C. L. ■Nichclls, and Messrs H. J. Polioik and Pearson, of Wellington, in their staircase hand-halancing display proved themselves very adept, and their cleverness was highly appreciated by those prstfnt Mr Nicholls also gave an oxli irtlcn of muscle control. He has evidently spent great time in develop, ins his body and his shoulders, arms and trunk are splendidly developed. Kis control was wonderful. Ac a contortionist “Quinaldo” proved very successful and is antics were very good. The horizontal bar and parallel bar turns by members of the Gymnasium were very good, and reflect great credit on the honorary instructor. The ladies gave exhibitions of Swedish drill figure marching, brass rods, and clubs, and all through their work was clean and the movements were well timed. Taken right through the performance was an excellent one, and it can well be said that probably no other town in New- Zealand, of Taihape’s size, could put on a gymnasium display of such a high order.
