A returned soldier relates that although wounded himself several times, Captain ?hout kept picking up wounded and carrying them cut of the firing line. He saw him carry away fully a dozen men. Then another bullet struck him in an arm which fell useless by his side, but he absolutely refused to go to the rear. A little later he declared that he was going to remain with the boys to the finish. He rcse, staggered, and fll several rimes, and finally his comrade i«snite his pretests, carried him to safety.
