WANTED PRISON EXPERIENCE.

Mrs Margaret Birkenshaw, 60, has been sent to the Federal Prison at Leavenworth, Kansas. S!he declined to accept a short sentence in a “nice Illinois gaol,” when she was before the federal court, charged with using the mails to defraud. “Getting into gaol has required more effort and more ingenuity than anything else I ever attempted,” said Mr s Birkenshaw in Iher plea to the court for a heavy sentence. The court, considering her age. coupled with the impression of culture she made, was inclined to be lenient. I want to get into prison for at least a year,” s ho said. “I want to study criminology and penology. I can’t do that in any nice Illinois gaol.”
