KILLED FOR JEWELLERY.
That the murder of Mrs Francis D. Harrison, in a West Side bungalow at Los Angeles, might,..;,-have been the work of a well known gang' of dia- , mond thieves, is the theory of tne po-. lice. A seardh for “Dick” Whittington, alias Allison, who was seen leaving the bungalow the day after Mrs Harrison is supposed to have been killed, ig being vigorously prosecuted. Detectives believe he can furnish valuable information. Whittington was supposed to be an expert accountant, and was sometimes referred to by the woman as "my husband” or “my brother.” according to the neighbours. Mrs Harrison was tlhe divorced wife:of Theodore F. Harrison, a real estate dealer of Indianapolis. She was called the “diamond widow,” because of the large number of jewels she wore. Neighbours believe the murder was committed on July 8. The body was found on Ju'ly 17 on a bed, a pillow over the face, and a bottle of chloroform nearly. There wag still several hundred dollars’ worth of jewellery on tike body when found, but the police say gems worth thousands are missing.
