A GENEROUS GERMAN
The sinking of the Lusitania cost Otto Sclhumann, head of the Portlanu Red Cross collections, £lO. According to his friends, it came about in this Tray: Schumann was seated with a group of friends in the Turn Halle the ■day the Lusitania sailed. “If the Germans get the Lusitania,” said Schumann, “I’ll give fifty dollars to the German Red Cross Fund.” After the new s of t|he sinking of the liner was received, Schumann strolled back to the hall. “Weil,” he said, “they got the Lusitania, “I’ll have to keep my word about the fifty dollars.”
