MATAROA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent). The social held in the Mataroa Hall on Wednesday evening- last, on behalf of Miss Forde's candidature, passed off very satisfactorily. The gross proceeds amounted to about £lO, of which sum about £7 was the result of the sale of a lamb donated by Mr. F. W. Williams. The music was principally supplied by Mr. Tom Donald, with extras on the piano by Mr. Joe Sinclair. Those present appeared to enjoy the evening thoroughly, dancing being kept up until about 3 a.m. Though the attendance was somewhat limited in number, the district I generally well 1 represented. Shearing has commenced here, Mr. J. Bowler having started on Thursday morning. The measles have pretty well died out here, the attendance at the school being now about normal. There is a very big area of Hand being got ready by the various farmers for sowing in turnips and rape, the soil about the district being particularly well adapted for these crops. The kohais are now in full bloom and are a magnificent sight.
