THE WOMEN’S REGISTER

Speaking in the House of Representatives the other day, the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) said that within a few weeks every woman in New Zealand would be given an opportunity to offer her services to the State. Massey explained on Wednesday, when the matter was mentioned to him by a reporter, that the organisation of the women was going to be on an entirely voluntary basis. Forms would be available at the postoffices throughout the Dominion, and the women who wanted to indicate her willingness to servo the State if her services were needed would have the right to obtain a form and fiM it in. Th forms will provide for the collection of information regarding the experience and qualificatons of the women. Knowledge of nursing or of ambulance or industrial occupation may serve as a qualification for service. The possible requirements of the Government in this direction are not known, much depending upon the duration of the war, but it is becoming apparent that with the increased rate of recruiting now required new avenues of usefulness are going to be opened to women.
