CARNIVAL COMMITTEE.
A meeting, of the General Committee was held last evening, Mr. W. Mcl.cnnan. presiding over a good attendance A letter was received from Dr. A. A. Martin, expressing regret that he was unable to come to Taihape to deliver an address. On the motion of Mr. \\\ McLennan it was resolved to reply regretting the doctor's inability to vi*it Taihape, but expressing the hope that " should he later find it possible, he ' would do so. Professor Owen Cardstone wrote offering his services for the organisation of the . coronation ceremony on the J same scale as he had done in other j parts of New Zealand. Be stated his terms would be reasonable. Mr. McLennan stated that the Marton people had seen fit to get a Taihape man to arrange the coronation for their carnival and Mr. Peyton's efforts | had been particularly successful. He j di not think the Committee should go outside the town, mid further state< j that the Central Committee liau arranged some time ago for Mr. Peyton to organise the coronation ceremony. On the motion of Mr. Carpenter, itwas decided to reply to Professor Cardstone to the effect that they al- ,: already had a man to arrange for the j Carnival. It was also decided to endorse the Executive's action in arranging for Mr. Peyton's services. An application from Mrs. Smith "s ■ Committee to sell sweets at the pic- , tures, now being run in the interests or , the candidates, was granted, and the ] Organising Secretary was empowered 1 to grant any similar applications from other Committees. The date of closing the Carnival and art unions was fixed for November ] 13th,. and money will be received up j till 9 p.m. on that day. .
