Beekeeping is evidently becoming - big business in South Taranaki, for the latest Mercantile Gazette records that six apirists have among them purchased on the hire system from the New Zealand Co-operative Honey Producers' Association 785 colnies of j bees, with combs and hives. The average cost per colony is about' £1 10/-. i Some few weeks ago, says trie Auckland Star, Mr. Farquhar Macdonald, farmer, at Pukeroa, Waipipi o.rfered to the Government an area of 2,000 odd acres, all, cut up into small farms, and subdivided by fences, at £3 per acre under the valuation of one of the leading land agents of the Auckland province. Mr. Macdonald did not ask for any purchase money in the event of the Government taking over the property, lie only requiring interest on the purchase price. As the offei was not accepted, Mr. Macdonald has since sold his property at a higher price, and now intends to go to London and offer his capital and services to the British War Department. In tli.e event of the salte being made to the New Zealand Government in the first instance it was Mr. Macdonald's intention to buy an aeroplane, costing £2,000, and 'also donate £SOO to the hospital ship fund.
