RANGIWAEA NOTES.

(Own Correspondent)

Excitement has been wrought to a very high pitch during the past wees by our two Patriotic Committees. Miss Fordo has many staunch supporters in both Ranghvaca and Kaketipauma, and ail are keen on doing their utmost so as to see the Farmers' Candidate head the poll at the final count. From went I can gather, subscriptions are rolling in fast and furious. Preparations arc in full swing for a big day on the 14th hist., when an afternoon sports, followed by a concert and dance in the evening, is to eventuate. All Cue non-dancers have at last got ' tired of; holding the stage and piano up and are very anxious to trip to the lively measure. I did hear of one of our boys who refused a last dance with our Queen Candidate. Rather hard to have to forego such an honour through shirking previous dancing classes. He is, however, quite keen*now. The new scliook-tcacher, after having had a quiet time for the first few weeks is receiving groat attention from various subscribers in the scandal town line, which is very apt to get out of order just when one or two wish to do a morning's loaf with receivers off. Hard luck is scarcely the term. I must advise the numerous visitors to our last dance that the Patriotic Duck, which was so ably auctioned by our friend Ren bo, turned out to be a drake. At the next dance it is to marie its reappearance (correctly catalogued, I hapo). An exciting incident occurred on Tuesday week, when our wort In* mailaian was waylaid by a fearless band or ! women, all armed with pocket relievers, in the neighbourhood of scandal town. He was only allowed to proceed after having relieved his wallet of sevral coins of the realm in favour of our Queen Candidate. Jack Stablings* has returned for .. few days' leave prior to leaving for the front, and Mr. G. Maher has received his call to report himself wit a the next reinforcements in camp. To both our heart ygood wishes are most cordiallv extended.
