Lamb: There is no alteration in the lamb market since last week, and good demand continues*. Canterbury twos 8 l-Bd, heavyweight fours 7Jd, second class quality lightweight 7 7-8 d; other New Zealand brands of lamb 8 l-8d for best quality lightweight; ordinary quality 7 3-16 d. Beef: Only a very low quality cow beef is available; Hinds 6d, fores sd, chilled hinds fores 6 3-Bd. Butter: Market is firm for best quality: Danish, quiet, 192/ to 202/; Siberian, brisk demand for finest quality, I low grade quiet, 136/ to 142/; Irish creamery, 177/ to 180/. The cheese market is quiet and prices are slightly weaker, with only moderate demand during this week. Canadian white 76/, coloured, 77/; New Zealand, white, 75/, coloured 77/; English Cheddar and Cheshire, firm, 94/ to 96/; United States, 72/ to 74/; fa!r to'good quality 60/ to 70/. Canadian and United States cheese stocks at London, Liverpool and Bristol on Ist October amounted to 313,000 boxes as against 169,000 last year; New Zealand and Australian cheese stocks at London and Bristol amounted to 11,200 crates as against 2,250 last year. Hemp: The market is firm, but little business is doing. ! Manilla: New graded fair on spot | for" October and December shipment, j £3S 10/. The output from Manilla for I thp week was 23,000 bales. | Wheat: The market is firmer on acj ocunt of shorts covering and the bet- ■ ter demand front millers. Canadian | new crop, September and .November 1 shipment, 47/9; American, August and September shipment, 49/6. Oats: The market is firm on account of the War Office buying. Argentine, on spot, at 31/; for October and December shipment, 29/6. Peas; Rather more enquiry. New Zealand Maples about 63/ for September shipment.
