Seeing two Blackpool boys William Aider, aged eleven, and George Alder, aged nine, playing with a bag of sovereigns and hal.f-sovcrei.gns in Frcekleton Street, a lady asked whose was the gold, and one of the lads replied. The mother was found to know nothing about the money, and it was eventually found that the boys had entered the house of Joseph Bamber. and stolen the bag. which contained £ls. from a drawer. Five pounds in silver had also been taken. The boys were arrested, and pleaded guilty to house-breaking and theft. William was ordered six strokes with the birch-rod, and George four strokes.
