STRUGGLE IN LONDON HOTEL.
An exciting experience undergone by the nightwatchman at tlie City Central Hotel, Newgate .street, was described when John Zeeman and Conrad Mathiew, young waiters, were charged on remand, at (lie Guildhall, with being in the hotel, at night for the purpose of committing a felony, and Zeeman was also charged with pointing n loaded revolver at the nightwatchman, and possessing housebreaking implements. Evidence given for the prosecution was that Zeeman was formerly a waiter at the hotel. On July MO the two engaged bedrooms there, and returned at 2..'10 the following morning. The nightwatchman took thorn some tea in the writing-room. .Mathiew .suddenly caught him by the throat, and Zeeman pointed a loaded revolver at him. The watchman struggled free, and blew a police whistle. Keys and pliers were found in Zeeman's bedroom, and Mathiew 's property included two masks. Zeeman now said the affair originated in a joke. Both prisoners were sent for trial, bail being refused.
