CATTLE POISONER SENTENCED.
At a special Broxton Sessions William Adams (30), farm labourer, of Wigland; Malpas, was charged on remand with placing poison in tihe food of cattle belonging to Mr T. Lievesle'y, Ivy House Farm, Wigland. It was stated that the prisoner lived on a small holding with his grandparents, and wan a neighbour of Mr Lievesley. On Juiy 7 he went into the shippn of the farm, and afterwards in one of the "boo°,'es" poison was found mixed with tihe mes . When charged he ad.nit'-.ed puttitg i he poison in the food because a cow lad broken down the fence of his allotment garden, and he thought it would prevent the cows doing further damage Superintendent Lees said prisoner admitted poisoning two dogs in the neighbourhood, and although the police were not proceeding with these charges, it showed that prisoner had extremely mischevious propensities. The magistrates, describing the offence as a diabolical act, sentenced prisoner to three months' imprisonment with hard labour
