WANGANUI BRASS BAND.

TO VISIT TAIHAPE. SATURDAY AND SUND.Vf. FOR CARNIVAL FUND. The committee of "Our Bors"" ca'ndidate have arranged a series of ccncerts to be put on this week-end. One of the finest bands in the Dominion, Queen Alexandra's Own Regim iital Band, of Wanganua, under the Jo.ifluctorship of Lieutenant Buckley, 'has offered to assist t[he Carnival by pHmg on concerts on Saturday night, Sundajy afternoon and* evening, in aid of Mrs R. W. Smith's candidature. Besides the fine performances int up by the band as a whole, the individual efforts to be brought forward in these concerts are far above the average bandsmen's items and are an improvement of the solo work of the players at the Auckland contest. Lieut. Buckley is playing again, and is still equal to ;any ot(her player in Australasia, and W. 'Shepley, the second soloist, is considered as second only to his conductor, and superior to any other in New Zealand. Mr Shepley is a recent arrival from England, where he had the best tuition, and since being in Wanganui has earned for himself quite a reputation as a concertina player—he is an artist.

j Tfr« midget soloist, Master Teddy i Summerg, is playing two solos. Though just a lad of ten summers he is a very promising player, and when he appears in public is a very popular performer. A further review of the soloists will be made after the programmes for the concert appear in order that the public may follow closely what tlhe band is placing before them. Though this is a strenuous time, a musical treat such as is anticipated should prove a pleasant change in cur festivities, and should give us fresh jfest to aim at giving supporters value fcr their money—a point that is never lost sight of by any of the candidates' committees.
