At a meeting of heads cf the public i . * service and representatives of the executive of the Public Service Association at Government Buildings thi s | week, relative to the question of the 'disposal of the contributions that have been made by the public service to tfae relief cf wounded soldiers and I their dependents, and to meet special ’cases cf distress arising from the war, ( it was brought under the notice of , tkosc present that certain cases had ' arisen which could, not now be helped Iby funds received from the public for j ihat purpose. It would appear that in imany cases tihe various organisations that have collected these moneys have not yet formulated a scheme for the: j disbursement of their funds, and the ! | meeting felt that, considering the | length cf time that has transpired 'since t|he funds ware raised, and in | view of the large amount in.hand colj lected from the public, the time had arrived when some definite move should be made in placing the administration of these moneys on some sat-! isfactory basis, so that distress may be I (met adequately immediately anfi without waste or overlapping. In order that prompt assistance might be given in several urgent cases wjhich were brought under review, the moving placed at the disposal of the Hon. G. W. Russell and the Hon. A. L. Herdman, to meet immediate necessities, a sum of. money from the contributions raised by the public service of the I Dominion.
