DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Robert Sprou'll Meriaies, who had charge of the Insurance Department of Messrs Nei'll and Co., Ltd., was before t{he court this morning charged that on 6th Juuly he committed thaft, having received £236 12/10 from Neilil and Co, on forms requiring him to pay the same to the Royal Insurance Co.. and that he d'd fraudently onvert the same to [Ms own use. Sub-Inspector said the accused had bean i'cr many years in charge of Neiil and Co.'s Insurance Department, and (here were a number of other infcrmsit'ons against him. Bail was refused a-Lev the Magistrate had perused a 'letter which accused had written to Mr Widdows°n, remarking that in accused's own interests, and for his own sake, bail should not be allowed.
