CARNIVAL NOTES.
(By the 0.5.) Interest in the Carnival) is growing rapidly and the first wave of excitement was felt yesterday. The committees of the various candidates are busy marshalling their forces, and the campaign wall commence in real earnest in a few days. The contest is going to be a keen one, and the winner will take a lot of picking.
To-night the friends and supporters of Mrs. E. W, Smith will meet in the Supper Eoom of the Town Hall.
A meeting has also been arranged a; TJtiku this evening, and there is every possibility that a candidate will be scelected to represent that ds.triet.
The committee of the Red Cross Candidate, Miss Carpenter, have hopped off the mark and arranged a social for Friday evening next la the Railway Social Hall. A fine programme or musical items is being arranged and the function gives every evidence of being a big success, ; Donors of bids for the Union Jack, donated by Mr. D. Neagle and auctioned at te opening ceremony of the Freezing Works yesterday, are kindly requested to forward the amount of their bids to the treasurer (Mr. A. E. Wakeraan) or the organising secretary. Donors have the right to allocate the amount of their bids for any candidate; in the Carnival Competition they are desirous of supporting, .and voting ■ scrips will be issued on application to the Organising Secretary at the Tow* Hall.
