A deputation representing, Canterbury flour millers and. grain merchants waited upon the Prime Mhiisferday in order to place before him. their views regarding wheat and flour plrices and kindred matters. The proceedings were private. The members of the deputation took the view that ther e was n <> present or prospective shortage of wheat in New Zealand, As migjht be exerted, the State advances to settlers for the June quarter, 1915, show- a vef'y considerable fa.ling-off as compared with the pre-war June quarter of last year. Thg number of applications received, was only 708, as compared with 1550, and the amount applied for was only £236,895, as against £740,345. Only 525 loans (we're authorised, as compared with 969 for the June quarter of 1914; and the amount of leans authorised totali’ed only £193,045, in. of £415.275.
