BROKEN PAROLE.
GERMANS IN EABAUL. S PLOTTING SEDITION. | SYDNEY, Sept. 4. ! Follownig the recent arrest of a number of Germans at Eabaul, the. statement is made that since Australian troops occupied the island prisoners- were allowed parole and permitted to hold social- gatherings. At first parole conditions were observed, but during the past few months some prisoners on the German reserve list took charge, promoting picnics, whereat, instead of simple picnics, they allegedly became meetings for announcing war news. The picnics usually followed the arrival of the mail, and news of the doings of the German armies read aloud was received demonstratively. Inquiry led '-.o the stoppage of the picnics. Seareh followed not only in Kabaul but Ire outlying islands, with the result that quantities of ammunition were found buried in perfect condition, indicating that it had been buried before the war, but had since been overhauled to prevent damage by dampness. The arrests, of a number of Germans followed on charges of having firearms in their possession. Every prisoner in the captured islands had previously been or'.ored to deliver all firearms.
