HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT,

LONDON, Sept. 4

(Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, tire average market prices on spot.) Mutton: There lias been no material change in the market during the week. New Zealand is not quoted. There is very Mttle at market and this is selling at: Canterbury 7-Jd per lb, North Island 7 Id. Good demand continues for ewes at 5 7-Sd. Lamb: The chief feature in the market is the demand for lightweight. Canterbury tAvos S 1-Sd; heavyweight fours 7 5-Sd; second-class quality lightweight Sd. Other than Canterbury 8 1-10 for best quality lightweight; ordinary quality lightweight as high as 7 15-16.

Beef: New Zealand is not quoted. There is a large supply of chilled selling at hinds 7 7-Sd, fores 6 3-Sd. Butter: Market is firm and good demand continues foe high grade. In Denmark, production has been reduced to 10 per cent, below normal. This, together with the demand from Germany and Elsewhere, and the shortage of best quality, make prices very high. Danish, per cwt. 1(58'/ to 170/. For Siberians there is a firm market and a good demand at 134/ to 138/. Irish creamery is steady at 152/ to 156/. Cheese: The market is advancing with fair business doing. • There has been much better demand for Colonial during this week at higher prices. Canadian, per cwt., 74/ to 76/; English Cheddar is steady with moderate demand at 94/; New Zealand is in good demand at 74/ to 75/ and up to 76/; United States 68/ to 72/; good fine grades 62/ to 66/. It is estimated that Canadian and United States cheese stocks at London. Liverpool, and Bristol, on the Ist September, were 336,000 boxes, as against 190,000 at same time last year. New . Zealand and Australian stocks at London and Bristol on the same date were 7,750 crates, as against 3,600 at the same time last year.

Hemp: Market is slight;!}' firmer owing- to rise of Manila exchange. New Zealand prices are steady, but buyers are not anxious to operate. N.Z. goodfair grade per ton £32; fair, £3O. For forward shipment., prices are nominally about the same. Manila is now graded fair £3B 10/. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Hops: Market is a shade weaker en account of line weather. Californian reports are excellent.

Wheat: Market is very quiet and irregular. Buyers are lidding back on account of good crop reports from Canada and America. English wheat is now being offered in market in fair quantity. English is from 40/ to 45/, according to quality; Canadian Manitoba No. 2 old crop, on passage, 52/6; new crop, September to October shipment, 46; October to November 43/6; American, new crop, August to September, 45/.

Oats: Market is quiet but steady. Argentine 2(5/; for August to Septein ber shipment 24/6.
