JUNIOR NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS.

At a recent meeting of the Wellington Assistant Masters' Association, the junior scholarship regulations (just issued) were passed under caustic comment. It is reported that though the members full}' recognised the injustices under which examinees will labour, they- still believed that little good could be effected by "tinkering" with a system already at fault. Hencethe following motion, strongly supported in favour of a different system of allocation, was passed: "(1) That this association is of the. opinion that the junior national scholarships should be abolished inasmuch as the present proficency certificate entitles holders to a free secondary education; (2) and considers that the money now spent upon scholarships should be utilised to assist approved scholars who require to live away from home in order to secure a secondary education."
