Meat: Canterbury and North Island mutton cannot hi quoted, because the Government is new holding all wethers for feeding the armies, and only ewes rr G available for the general public. Ewes are plentiful, wi h a-fair demand, a-, s'id. More lambs have been released, and'prices have declined, with the j result that the- demand is getting batter. The demand has been stimulated by the scarcity of chilled beef. The clem \nd is chiefly for light-weights 4's 7 5-8, second-grade light-weight 7 7-Bd, other than Canterbury 8 l-16d. Butter: The market is firm. The loss of a steamer with 28,000 casks of Siberian butter on board has made the market firmer. Danish, in small demand, 160/ to 172/; Siberian, in good demand, little offering, 134/ to 136/; TVish creamery, firm, 156/ to 160/, unsalted, 160/ to 162/. Cheese: The market is very quiet; prices irregular. Canadian, quiet, 735. to 75/, according to quality and condition, excepW:onr/}y 76/; English Cheddar, quiet, 94/; New Zealand, market quiet, but steady, 73/ to 75/; United States, quiet, 63/ to 70/, but if not in good condition is selling at 02/ to 66/.
Hemp: Market quiet, but steady. New Zealand good-fair grade, £32 10/. fair £3O 10/, forward shipment quoted at same price. Manilla, new grade, fai'r, £3B. Wheat: Market weaker. Prices slightly lower. It is reported that the Canadian crop is large and of good quality. Canadian old crop, on passage. 55/ per quarter, new Crops Octo-ber-November shipment 47/6, American new,crop 47/. > Oats: Market quiet, small business doing.
