SXTSACEEINAEY OPERATION. News has reached Kihvining from Libby, Montana, of a remarkable operation performed with the aid of a dull knife and two teaspoons by Dr. L. W. An Id, a native of Kilwinning, at present practising in Libby. A lumberjack named Ted Sherman, who was under the influence of liquor, endeaovurcd to swallow half a pound of beef steak without masticating it, with the result that it stuck in his gullet, and he could neither swallow it nor get it back. When Dr. Auld arrived life was almost extinct. The doctor asked for a knife from the bystanders, grasped the man’s windpipe with his left hand, and sank the knife into the windpipe. The knife was so dull that it took throe efforts to get it through. Immediately air was drawn into the rungs the colour began to leave the face, and there was relief. With the teaspoons the doctor get a man to keep the a:r passage open until he returned from his surgery with proper instruments, with the aid of which he soon had the man beyond danger.
