Th e piano ? cr tne occasion was kindly lent by Mr s Phillips, to whom the thanks of the committee are due. Mr Collier, of Taihape, presided at the piano. At the conclusion the gathering decided to devote the balance, £5 odd, to the fund for the wounded soldiers. At 11.30 the gathering broke up. Altogether, the event was a great success, everything passing off in good swing; high good-humour and intense enthusiasm and patriotism being displayed by the rounds of applause that repeatedly punctuated th e speeches of those proposing the toasts. A special word of praise is due to Mr Gilchrist fcr the admirable manlier in which h e fulfilled t.h e arduous
duties of chairman. At the conclusion the Rev Catherwood extended an invitation to the guests cf the evening to service on the following Sunday morning, and I am given to understand the young men literally took the church by storm, a forecast of their exploits at the firing line.
