The High Commissioner reports, under date, London, August 11th, 9.45 p.m.: The "Ramsey," a small patrol steamer, was sunk by the Gorman armed steamer, "Mslear," in the North Sea, on Sunday, four officers and thirtynine men being saved The "Meteor's" commander subsequently sighted a British cruiser squadron. Realising her escape was impossible the commander abandoned, and blew up the "Meteor." The High Commissioner reports, under date, London, August ■ 11th, 9.45 p.m.: ' Th e latest from Sir lan Hamilton states that severe fighting continued on Tuesday in Gailipoli Peninsula, mainly on Ansae, zone and to the north The positions slightly varied in places, but the general result is that the area held at Anzac is nearly trebled, owing chiefly to gallantry and dash of Austrian ia.rtl New 'Zealand pfrmy corps while to th e north, no further progress has yet been made. There has been fairly lively fighting, trench to trench, at Bois le Pretre, with grenades and large "bombs. A German attack on Linge was repulsed after grenade fighting. A" submarine stopped the mail steamer Iris in the North,Sea and compelled the captain to throw over a valuable Russian mail. FRANCE AND BRITAIN . Scores of munition factories had been started, and te ; ns of thousands of workmen had been placed at manufacturers' disposal. A Berlin wireless states that good crops will soon permit the increase of bread distributions, and decrease prices of potato. Prospects are excellent and prices will soon be on a peace level. MORE GERMAN CULTURE AN EXTRAORDINARY MANIFESTO (Reed 1.45 p.m.) PARIS, August 11. Intellectual professors of Germany have issued a Kultur Manifesto, declaring that peace-loving Germany only rose up when barbarians in the East and powerful, envious eneniies in the West. threatened to annihilate heir. Germany»does not want to dominate th e world, but demands the possibility of extending her culture and .commercial power.
