"SCRAPE 0' THE PEN-" At the Taihape Town Hall last night a good house was present to witness the pretty Scotch comedy play, " A Scrape o' ihe Pen," portrayed by Mr and-Mrs Graham Moffat and their new. ly-augmented company. This delightful y comedy is full of light humour, and the touch of the dramatic is just suffifficient to balance th e play. Naturally, tho leading characters of Mattha Ing-lis and Leezie. Inglis, played by Mr and Mrs Moffat, take first place;, and their very natural portrayal of the characters is excellent throughout. Miss Mattie MacLellan, who took the osrt of Jean Lowther, the, wife of Hugh Menzies (Alec G. Hunter) was also very good, and in Act 2, where she sings a little child to sleep, Miss Mack-Han was excellent. Not a sound was to be heard in the hall during her shvrmgu but at its conclusion, she was accorded vociferous applause. The various other players took their parts well, and special mention must be made of little Miss Jean McColl, who took the part of Wee Eppie. This little lady is a fine actress, and last night it wa s evident that she ; at once made a favourite with the audience. Her very ratural playing was all that ccuM be desired. Mr and Mrs Moffat with their company will play at Wanganui to-night.
KING'S THEATRE. The change to-night will be something new. as there will be shown America's gala day, showing "The Great American Round-Up," where cowboys and cowgirls assemble from parts to take part in this great event. These championships are held every year, the wildest of horses and bullocks being used. Other pictures aro: "Byways of England," an educating study; "Naidra," Dread Woman; "Shorty " Edison drama; latest Gazettes (a Gaumont and a Pa the Gazette. A programme worth seeing
THREE STARS THEATRE. At this theatre to-night will be shown the first of the Florence Turner's dramn. entitled "Through the Valley of Shadows." a splendid 4,000 feet picture-play. Wives, mothers, and daughters should not miss this. It exposes a man's hollow love, denounce? the world's shams, cheers a true woman's bravery,-and uplifts all that is worthy. It is a story, sane, wholesome, of a woman striving against fearful odds. A picture of interest is the "Broken. Hill Shooting Tragedy/' by the Turks only recently. "Zip the Dodger (Keystone), and other pictures feature on the programme.
