A Wanganui resident who has been on a visit to Sydney states that storehoopers there are limiting the sale cf butter to half-pounds and sugar to three pounds. By doling out butter and sugar in such small quantities they demonstrate the need to prevent waste during the scarcity, besides eonserving supplies so that there would be a little, if not much, for all. A private letter to a Stratford resident from Melbourne states that the ruling price in that city for butter is 2/3 per lb; the ordinary leaf is 9}d; steak commands 1/2 per lb. and Ibin chops run into 1/ per lb. The effect of the drought of last year is stated to be still apparent.
