BRITISH SUBMARINE EXPLOITS'
FEARS FOR CONSTANTINOPLE
DARDANELLES REINFORCED

(Reed 12.50 p.m.) ATHENS, July 22,
Among the details of th e exploits of British submarines in the Sea pf Marmora are that four large lighters loaded with ammunition "were blown to pieces and all the crews perished. Anxiety felt in Constantinople for the safety of the ammunition works, which are much exposed to aerial attacks. Efforts are being made to provide anti-aircraft gruns. Nine thousand troops were recently withdrawn from Smyrna for the Dardanelles.
Five thousand cases, of cartridges and four wagons of gun powder were brought from Asia Minor.

SEVERAL MINOR SUCCESSES

LONDON, July 22
Th e Press Bureau states that General Hamilton reports that in the northern section a raiding party rushed trenches in front of our lines on the night of the 18th, when all the enemy fled except one who was killed. On the - 19th an anti-craft gun Avas located end hit with a second round from our guns, the fifth round blew it into the air - . In the southern area the Turks on the eighteenth attacked seme newly captured trenches in the French section, but they were repulsed easily. In the British section on Saturday, we progressed, consolidated, and in som G cases extended the trenches Avon, on the 12t.h and 13th. On the 21st a small redoubt was captured Avith insignificant loss. ’ We successfully attacked a part of flip enemy’s communication trench. French artillery knocked rut a. Turk:sh machine nun that was opposing our left. . In both sections the enemy's artillery is active. 4
