SOUTH-BOUND EXPRESS
BLOCKED AT BENNETT’S SIDING
BY BIG LANDSLIP,
GANG OF WILLING WORKERS
CLEARING THE LINE,
TRAIN BAILED UP FOR SEVERAL HOURS.
A large landslip on the Main Trunk railway line occurred about a mile to the north of Bennett ’s Siding at an early hour this morning. When The nows reached Taihape the railway authorities despatched a large gang of men by special train to clear it away, but it was at once realised that the express due at Taihape about half-past eight this morning would not got through till the afternoon with the best of fortune in removing the debris, and that owing to the soft nature of the earth it might be late in the day before a clearance could be effected. Air. Kelly, of the Taihapo Stables, visited the scone, which he describes as a sea of mud and slush! and, although there is a.gang of very Trilling workers doing their utmost, he says it will take several hours to remove the blockage so that the train may safely pass. The slip, he says, is a serious one, and it is not easy to say when the express will reach Taihape. Among the bailed-up passengers are Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Collins, of Taoroa, who are returning home after spending a round trip of the Islands,
