THE WINTER SHOW.

RECORD ENTRIES,

GOOD QUALITY EXHIBITS

The fourth annual) Winter Show of the Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Association opened in O’Connor's Hall yesterday afternoon, and a very good attendance was present in the afternoon and evening. The entries are a record this year and many fine exhibits arc on view, not only in the poultry sections, but also in field roots, garden produce, and homo industries. The poultry classes, of course, take first place, and poultry fanciers are loud in their praise of the many high-class birds exhibited. The section devoted to field roots is well representative of the agricultural side of farm work. Numerous fine samples of mangels, carrots, parsnips, Swede turnips, and pumpkns are among the exhibits. In the class for cabbages some remarkable growths are to be seen. In the garden produce classes, the percentage of entries is well maintained and here again the samples submitted are of a very good quality. The potato classes contain some splendid samples. Many of the potatoes are of great size and fine shape and in this class the entries are very heavy. There are also good exhibits in the classs for onions, leeks, cabbages, and beet. In the fruit section there was not much competition, but that shown was very fair. One of the most popular sections is Home Industries, and this year the entries are very numerous. Tp the home cooking lad preserves and picklbs classes the entries, taken all round, were very good indeed. The butter and egg section also contained many good exhibits. The section devoted to art and industrial subjects was an interesting one and many fine pieces of work were on view. The exhibits of carving and painting were good, but in both these sections more competition is desirable. Altogether, the Show this year may •well be classed among the leading exhibitions held under .the auspices of this Association and the quality of the exhibits right through is good. .The film of agricultural pictures supplied by the Government was screened in the afternoon and evening at the King’s Theatre. The pictures showed all classes of agricultural industry. Tire stall in charge of the Women’s Wording Club has been doing a thriving business, and as it is for a patriotic purpose it should receive every support.

The Show will, be open again tonight. Following is the prize-list:— POULTRY. Mr H. D. Bennett’s Silver Cup for Best Bird in No. 5 Show, other than Champion.
