DECLARATION OF WAR.

INTERCESSORY SERVICE. ALL CHURCHES AMALGAMATE. - IN TAIHAPE TOWN HALL. On Wednesday, August 4th, the anniversary of the commencement of the great war, special services will be held in the Town Hall,’ one taking pkree at half-past two in the afternoon, and the other in the evening. , That in he afternoon will take the form of a corporate intercessory service, and so that everybody may take part, .the Mayor is to be asked to arrange for the usua.l weekly half-holiday to be held on that day instead of on Thursday. It is hoped to have the co-operation of all military organisations, the Town Band, and all Lodges have been asked to attend in a corporate character, and in uniform. The choirs of the various churchps are amalgamating to lead the singing.

Father Connolly is absent but his cooperation is sincerely desired and every effort will be made to secure his eo-op-eration. In the afternoon, an address will be given by the Kev. E. H. Catherwood, and, perhaps, by other speakers. Collections will be taken up in aid of the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund and for Belgium, when it is hoped that something more than the ordinary col-lection-plate tit-bit will be forthcoming—something more in accordance with what would be forthcoming at a carnival or some such function —a giving that reflects the interest people all must feel in the object. The order of service and hymns to be sung will be printed, and in such a form as to render them valuable as souvenirs. Money to finance the undertaking will be needed and it is hoped that those.who can will, without further notice, send in their little help to the Kevs. Stent, Catherwood. or Minifle-.
