WOMEN’S WORKING CLUB.

CONCERT AND DANCE

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING.

The concert and dance organised by the Taihape Women's Working Club,, hold at St. Margaret's Parish Hall lastnight. proved a great success. .Tito ' building was crowded both upstairs and in the hall. The stage had been decorated with Union Jacks and other national emblems. A good programmehad been arranged, under the direction of Mr. S. Peyton, and a number of the artists were loudly applauded and preI vailed upon to render encores. The j tableaux, entitled “All Nations’ 7 i headed the programme and was very I cffetivly carried out. The procession of nations marched up to the stage.where “Brittania” sat on her throne, and the coloured ribbons which connected her with the British Dominions; across the sea made a striking effect. Altogethert, the tableau was very effective. Thef ollowing ladies and gentlemen contributed items: Mrs.. Loughnan, Miss McKoown, Miss M.. Mdveown, Miss White, and Messrs,. Aldridge, Stevens, James, Dixon, Payton, Parker, and McSweeney. Comparisons are not desired, but mention mightbo made of the item by Mr. Peyton. Incostume ho effectively rendered the--humorous song; “The Spaniard Who. Blighted My Life, ’ ’ and was loudly applauded. Mr. McSweeney, in the costume of a Chinaman, was unrecognisable,, but his item was good. Mentionshould also be made of Mr. P. McLaughlan, who went to considerable ■ trouble in fixing an electric light above - the stage, Mrs. S. Peyton kindly acted’ as accompaniste. A bountiful supper was provided at the close of the concert. Dancing then commenced and was kept up-till past midnight. During the evening a sheep donated by Mr.. Charlie Stewart), was auctioned by Mr. W. McLennan and after considerable bidding was knockcl down “for keeps’" to Mr. Jorgensen.- The 1 animal wa.» bought and sold a number of times, thetotal amount realised being over £.12. The thanks of the Club are due to all who helped to make the function such a success. It is possible that the concert may be repeated on a larger scaleat the Town Hall at a later date.
