A FATAL ACCIDENT.
FALL FROM A HORSE. ;"2 TAIHAPE MAN KILLED. j A most distressing accident occurred tost nijght |!bout fyal£-past ten o'clock, by which on e of the oldest and most highly-respected pioneer settiers of this district lost his life. \£ It appears that Mr Thomas Lauren-. son, who had attended the stock sales during the day, was returning home to his farm, and was just crossing th e bridge in Hautapu Street, nearly opposite Cody's breve dry, when the horse he was riding slipped, and he was thrown to the bridge deckingt In th e fall it is presumed his head struck a rail on the bridge superstructure, but until surgical examination is. made, it cannot be stated what the, caus e of death really was. It may hav e been neck dislocation, or skull fracture, as there appears to be no mark whatever on the body. Mr Laurenson is a man that will be much missed: he was a genial, good friend, well primed in the history and lore of this district, having resided in it a long time prior to 1389. The fatal occurrence has cast quite a gloom over the larger part of the people of the district, as, in addition to being well and favourably known, the deceased had many, family connections among whom are two sons, one of which is at th e front taking part in the Empire's battles. ; An iuquest is to be held,' when a full report of the sad happening will be published. .-,, j
