A rather historic dinner was given at Heliopolia House, near Cairo, on February 13, when all those men who served in the First New Zealand Contingent for South Africa who were in the Expeditionary Force then in Egypt held communion. On a souvenir menu received appears the names of the following: J. Gethin Hughes, A. F. Bachelor, W. E, Mahood, F. A. Wood, H. S. OrbelV/'Yorkie" Smith, Alex. H. WJlkio, J. H. Whit?, "Tiny" Emerson, W. Johnston, and J. Aitken. Written in a circle, are the words: "In the trenches at Suez, Harrowell and Geo. Mitchell." Since the above dinner was held, ieutenant P. T. Emercon has been killed in action at the Dardanelles.
