PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.
The annual report of the Public I Trust Office was presented to the House lon Thursday. It shows that the net profis of last year amounted to £32,SOS, Vicing an increase of £3,2SG on those of the previous twelve months, and constituting a record in the history of the department. It is stated that salaries have been increased from £32,837 to £35,210. The legislation of 1912 and 1913 had largely increased the usefulness of the office. The public have availed themselves of it freely, and the result has been satisfactory to all concerned. At the beginning of the yoar, the common rate of interest was raised and the scale of charges reduced, with the result that charges received about £3,200 more in interest and paid £7OO less in fees. The financial .assisance afforded by the office had not I been curtailed by reason of the war, for since the outbreak a sum of £609,,947 had been lent to 208 borrowers.
