RANGITIKEI A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

WINTER SHOW COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Winter Show Committee of the Eangitikci A. and P. A sociation was held last evening. In the absence of the president, Mr. J. R. Cunninghame was \'otcd to the chair. .V good deal of routine business was! discussed and arranged, chiefly in eonuoction with the appointment oi judges. An offer from the Agrieulhiral Department of instructive moving pi ture films on farming subjects was di? cussed. As the Department's operate! could not come with the pictures, it was resolved that the offer be accepted ;•;.,! that the secretary make arrangemeats for the pictures being screened by a local operator. It was resolved to hold the Show ir O'Connor's Hall, owing to the high cost of the Town Hall, it being about £2O as against £5 for O'Connor's Hall. The Women's Working Club wrote

asking for the amount of space that conld be allowed for their Jumble Stall. After consideration, it was found quite impracticable to say what space could • be spared until show exhibits could be arranged for. The matter was left with the secretary to deal with. While the appointment of stewards was being discussed, Mr. Mathie drew attention to the advisability of appointing a checking steward for the poultry classes. At various shows birds were sometimes lost altogether. Ir other cases complaints wore made and it was ultimately found that the birds

/jmplained about had not been sast. Continuing, Mr Mathie said: The checking steward .should enter in a book—take, practically, an inventory of every bird as it enters the room, and check again as they leave, no one to be allowed to ojien crates containing the birds till this check is made. It was resolved that all birds be cheeked os suggested, and that Mr. Eraser be appointed checking steward. Mr. Wrightson was appointed chief steward; Mr. 0. E. Darvill, utility poultry; Mr. A. R. Fanning, game, etc.; Messrs. Bicknell and Field, field roots, etc.; Mr. .Tames, fruit; Mr. Champion and Miss Jacobsen, home industries (to select their own assistants); Mr. Champion, arts and industries. The secretary was instructed to engage what additional labour was required, also to arrange for carting on the lines of last Show engagement.

Mr. Mathie said there was a matter brought up at the last Palmerston 1 Show which might well be copied by this Society at the coming Show. The Wyandotte Club at Palmerston had decided that each member would contribute a purebred bird to be sold by auction in aid of the Wouuded Soldiers' Fund. As a good deal of money was raised this way for a good cause, he thought exhibitors at our Show might feci inclined to emulate the decision of the Wyandotte Club and contribute a bird to be sold in aid of the tame fund. He woidd be pleased to contribute and he thought others would. It might be confined to exhibitors at the Taihapo Show, or to Taihape exhibitors, c.r, others may have contributed previously. The chairman thought it an excellent idea, but, of course, the meeting could not do more than make it thorough]}' known so that every exhibitor may have an opportunity to give as he thinks proper. Some of those present at the meeting Dromisad birds towards the fund.
