From evidence given at a King Country will case it appears that there are three forms of Maori insanity—"porangI rr mad, c f rore-rore rr mentally affected, and <f wau-wau" simpleton. Some of the Maori witnesses thought Uenuku "porangl, Tr others looked upon his as "roTe-rore, rr while others thought he wasn't eevn ' f wati-wau" biit perfectly sane. In a Maori' will case, heard at Taumanimii', Mr. Frank Brown was called as a witness regarding Uenuku r s sanity.: He caused great amusement by his description of the old man's antics one night at Piriaka. He chased the devil in and out of Mr. Brown r s house, then in the course of construction, pursued the taipo on to the roof of own whare) where he stabbed at him with a stick, hut fell through the roofT He seemed none the worse for the encounter.
