The' report of the He& Inspector was read for the month '« of May. No cases of diptheTia were recorded in Taihape —The report was . received. The Mayor said' he thought this , was a matter that did not much affect i * he Taihape Borough, and the letter w. 1S therefore received'. - Two letters from residents were submitted to the Council, and it was ex- V plained that they had only just been i received. I
The Mayor drew attention to the fact that a motion had been passed some time ago, which decreed' that letters for consideration by the Council mast bo received two days prior to the meeting.
Cr. Bennett said' some letters might reasonably require, immediate' attention, and should be considered on their merits. He certainly favoured tlie rule, however, that' letters for' Consideration should be received some time" before 1 the Council meeting:' Cr. Joblin thought' the' Cbimcir might deal with the letters. He aslce'd" whether the Council was under any obligation in the matt'er."
The first letter was from Wv: Gibbs, who was building"on the BbrcfHgh' rcserve, and he was in difficulty with respect to his boundaries, which were being questioned by Mr. Nathair; who said he was encroaching on his T property to an extent of "sis inches. Wrightscn said'he thought that authority should be given for that ■"portion to be in order to arrive at a satisfactory decision.
It was eventually de'eided' that:* this should be done. A letter was received 'from Mr. A' J. Norman, who wrote complaining that the poundkeeper was -not carrying-out his duties in impounding straying-ani-mals.
Cr. Wrightson said there was- ire doubt there was some truth in plaint for he was personally aware of others who had experienced similar trouble.
Cr. Bennett moved that' keeper should be informed "of thfe-com-plaint, and asked to impound-?" straying horses and cattle> The motion was carried. . National Highways...
His Worship- referred to- a-letter:-which had been-held over f ram-the previous meeting, with regard to a national highway from Auckland to Welling---ton and asking the Council to appoint a delegate tos -attend a coiaieTence' a-t* Wellington. A letter was received" Stum the secretary of the Conciliation Board with respect to the agreemeafr recently drawn up, and asking' thafr the seal of the- Council be appended" to the document.
The Mayor said t&ey had been through the draft, but they had nothad an opportunity- of comparing the draft with the docume-nt submitted ftor signature, but no doubt" they were identical.
