KAITIEKE COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The following business was transacted at the last meeting of the Council: — Loans. —Resolutions passed at last meeting with regard to the raising of loans on certain special rating areas were formally confirmed, and resolutions striking the rate for the repayment of these loans were duly passed. The pay sheet, amounting to £4OO for loan account, and £642 10/11 for fund. account, was passed for payment. Freeholding Sections. —The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote stating tliat Messrs. Gemimel and Gibbons, of Kokakonui, proposed to purchase the freehold of their sections. Send Fences. —Mr. Hcydon, of Owhango, and Mr. Weeks, Eetaruke, wrote asking permission to erect a fence on the road-side. —Granted on usual conditions.

Tramway Permit. —Messrs. Manson and Clark wrote asking permission to run a tramway across the road between Eauriinu and Oio. —The chairman said ho believed there was a procedure to be adopted.—lt was decided to ask for further pa rticulars. Fencing.—Mr.. K. N. Grico asked permission to erect some ten chains of fencing off the road line on account of difficulty of erection on the surveyed line. —Granted. Main Road.—The clerk read a letter to the Public Works Department pointing out the bad state of the road and culverts from Matapuna to the southern boundary of the County, and asking for a grant of £2,000 for renewing the bridges.—A reply was received stating that the Department would look into the matter, and enquiries have since boon made by the District Engineer as to the probable eosf. Owhango Pound Site.—The IV.artraent of Ltinds wrote stating that thd ranger recommended a different lite. viz., portion of a sceton oceispie-i by M'r. Payne. The Council was asked if it would pay the survey fees, etc. —Cr. Alanson moved that the Department's offer be accepted.—Carried. Engineer's Report.

On the Oio road I have not been able to get any one to do tho work, as none of the men about, will go out for a few days, so that '.unless some of. the settlers will do the work it will have to stand over until I can get someone to do the. work. It would also be advisable to put n surfaceman on for two or three months on the Betaruke Valley road, on tho new formation. The greater portion of this road is pumice, and there are a number of small slips down, that are blocking the watertables and culrerfia and turning the water into the middle of tho road, and making a channel down the centre of the rond, and if lefi will cause considerable damage la-jr on. I must also complain of the damage being done to the Kaitieke road through Mr. Signal's pigs running on the road. lie has been warned sever;.! times but has taken no steps f.o'keej them in. The authority fr,r the sawmill tjvani in the Taumarunui district has been received, and the repairing of the main ; road between Manunui and Kakahi is bong done. Tenders will be called for : the erection of the Makokomiko road bridge, Oio road, and Betaruke roads, to close the next meeting. I have not been able to call for tender;-, for the next contract on the WaimarI ino-Bctaruke road as there is not enough money available at present on j account of the full subsidy not having j been granted." ! The levels for the reforming of tfie j Raurimu street have been taken, that ! is, the main street to Connor'.? si able.-- ! 1 and tho Kaitieke road to the bridge. I J have, not yet had time to get at the ae- j tnal cost as yet, but approximately it ■ will take £1,750. This includes form-: ing, clearing, culverting, curbing, and 1 metalling. ....... j I have also gone into the matter of [ a water supply for the town, and as far ! as I can see for the present there are no great difficulties to be overcome in getting the water to the township, but it will take some time to get the levels I taken and to get at anything like a correct estimate for this. Before doing this I should like to know if it is x in tended to supply the sections in the Raurimu Extension with water or only the main street, as it will mean a great deal df work to take the levels and draw up plans for the whole if only a porton is to be done. Raurimu Water Supply..—Or. Ainuson said the engineer should give an estimate for Raurimu water supply to the unction. He, Or. Alanson, intended calling a meeting of Raurimu settler,* to consider the matter. . j
