Crawford, S. Beban, A. James. T. H. Kieley, and G. Goldfinch. . Renewals of licenses were, granted to W. S. Poole, Railway Hotel, Fordoll; a.. Jones, Tokaanu Hotel; P; E. "\\ rakeman, Era's Hotel, Taihape; Angus .Mc- | Donald, Bridge Hotel, Pordcl!: ; and H. J. Archer, Mangamahu Hotel. ' A license was issued to A. G. Ne\vman for Kennedy's Hotel at U.pokongaro. •-). ■ % Respecting' the application for re-, newnl of license of tho Gretna Hotel, Taihape, Mr,. Pargeter, District Health Officer, at the request of the chairman. , detailed what had been accomplished i towards compliance with the requisitions of the Health Department as affecting the sanitary arrangements at ! the hotel. A portion of. the work had [been completed and the remainder was hn course of Completion. Witness stated that at Mr. Jorgensen's request he had. furnished specifications to the builder and plumber, of what was required to meet the wishes of tho Department, as placed before tho last meeting of the Committee.. The uncompleted plumbing work was due entirely to. inability of the contractor to secure labour to have the work completed in time for the Licensing Committee'!} meeting. -Mr. Jorgensen had not demurred at. the expense entailed to comply with the Health Department's requisition. He had, without demur, accepted the decision of the. Committee that the work would have to be done and had handed over the arrangements to witness in order to ensure that his Avishes would be completely met.

At this stage the chairman stated that the. Committee was of opinion that the application for the license should bo postponed for three months, by which time the. work in hand would doubtless be completed.

Through counsel, Mr. Jorgensen pleaded that to postpone the issue of the license for three months, because, circumstances over which he had no control had-' prevented the work in hand being completed, would be unfair in many respects. He instanced, some of the possible and probable ways in which the proposed action of the Committee would detrimentally affect him. He asked that- the license be issued conditionally on the wc-rk in hand being completed to the satisfaction of the Health Officer in a reasonsable time.

The chairman stated that'the Committee did not have power 'to issue licenses With conditions attached. However, the Committee could keep the license oh foot by adjourning the application for three months. Thar course had been adopted at. the annual.meeting- ov the Wellington. Committee !.n respect to two applications.

Mr. Pargeter stated that Mr. Jorggnsen was in no way responsible tor the present unfortunate position. . He was more to be pitied then blamed. Witness considered the work could be completed in, a week f 6r ».o and was prepared to accept the licensee's undertaking to this effect rather than cause him any inconvenience'; The speaker had been unable to personally interest himself in the work to the extent he had desired, due to attention to several contagious diseases cases in his district occupying more than the usual share of his time. He reiterated.that he did not desire to see Mr. Jorgensen suffer through re-json of cicumstances beyond his .control. ;
