MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-BAY 'S PROCEEDINGS. (Before Mr. W, R, Hasclden, S.M.)' BREACHES OP PROHIBITION ORDERS. Jeremiah Murphy, a well-known local identity, was arrainged on two charges of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Defendant pleaded guilty to each charge. He explained, in extenuation of the. breaches, that he hold volunteered for the front but the doctor had refused to pass him. He became annoyed and despondent and sought consolation for his feelings by indulgence in alcohol. "I am sorry, your Worship," stated Murphy. "I am sorry for you, too, Murphy," replied Mr. Haselden. j Sergeant Harvey stated that Murphy was fined £1 for a like offence in January last. If defendant again came , before the Court he intended making j an application to send Murphy to Pakatoa Island for twelve months. His Worship considered it useless to offer any advice to Murphy. A fine of £2 in each case was imposed. Simon Whelan -was charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Through counsel, defendant stated he had been working in water on some excavation works and had contracted cold. He was unable to see the doctor, so purchased some whisky. He had since been passed by the doctor and was awaiting orders to proceed to Trentham. He had previously been penalised for becoming drunk as the effect of drinking the whisky. Bland, £2 5/-, costs 15/-. A FENCING DISPUTE. In the case of Jeremiah O'Keefe v. Catherine Beuch, a claim of £4 16/9 for share of dividing fence, volumiucus evidence was adduced last Court day and his Worship inspected the fence and the boundary line. This morning, counsel for plaintiff and defendant announced they were unable to come to a settlement, and judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount of the claim, with £2 12/costs.
