HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT,
WELLINGTON, June 7,
The following is the High Commissioner’s cable, dated London, June 5. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):
Th e meat market is excited and prices advancing rapidly, owing to short supply. Up to the present the Government has placed only a small quantity of surplus meat on the market.
Mutton.—Canterbury n\\, for flight weight ordinary quality " 6id, ewes G S-Bd.
. Lamb: Canterbury B£d, for all weights second grade Sid, other than Canterbury 83d, for best quality, light weight second grade Bid. Beef, —New Zealand, nominal quotations, hinds Bd, fores 63d. The supply of chilled beef falls short of the demand. Hinds 9d, fores 7Jd. Butter. —Market quiet, at a decline. During the week prices for colonial declined from 2/ to 3/ per cwt Danish 144/ to 148/, New Zealand 140/ to 142/ (exceptionally 144/), Australian 136/ to 142/, Siberian (in good demand) 130/ to 134/, Argentine 134/ to 136/, Irish creamery 134/ to 136/.
Cheese—Market remains firnv but there is less demand. Canadian is in good demand. This season’s make, white and coloured, 94/ to 9S/; New Zealand, firm, white atfd coloured, 98/ to 100/; English c.heddar, this season’s make, 98/ to 102/; United States, in good demand, 92/ to 96/, according to quality and size, Australian, none offering.
Wool.—Market strong, all stocks advancing
Wheat. —Market weak and inactive on account; good American crop reports. Canadian May-June shipment 58/. ’
